My Top 50 of 2013: The Top 10

So here we are, the last day of my countdown and time to see what my top 10 tracks of 2013 are. I must say it’s all a little surprising to see how it all panned out. I hadn’t really thought of any of the songs as outright contenders for the #1 of the year, but someone has to be there, and it’s about time I let the cat out of the bag.

Catching up? Have you seen the rest? #50 – 41, #40 – 31, #30 – 21, #20 – 11

My Top 50 of 2013: #20 – #11

Oh we’re nearly there aren’t we? I hope people are still interested anyway. I mean it’s just my opinion, no reason why you should be interested, but it keeps my hands busy over the holidays so I’m sure it’s for the greater good.

We hit the first barrage of Eurovision entries yesterday, who knows how many are left to find? Well I do, of course, but I’m not telling.

Go back to #50 – 41, #40 – 31, #30 – 21 or ahead to the Top 10

My Top 50 of 2013: #30 – #21

Let’s keep powering through, YEAH!!! Let’s hear some enthusiasm! Or not, whatever. So here’s the halfway mark, and to spice things up, I’m writing this quite drunk as I’ve just got back from my family Christmas party, and realised I hadn’t written it yet. Fun!

Skip back to #50 – 41, or #40 – 31, or ahead to #20 – 11 and the Top 10 Continue reading

Album: Britney Spears – “Britney Jean” (2013)

I had hoped things would turn out a bit better than they have done for Britney’s eighth album “Britney Jean” – the name has a slight ring of “Damita Jo” about it… perhaps the less said about that the better. It seems that the campaign is not getting off to a great start, and it’s looking to be getting lost in the Christmas rush without even particularly positive reviews to help it out.

A shame really because there’s nothing particularly wrong with it, I quite enjoyed it really, and at a very slim 36 minutes it doesn’t have a chance to get boring. However for an apparently more personal album, the sound is a bit scattergun and I struggle to find too many personal moments outside the will.i.am-sponsored club tracks. In the light of the huge success of “Scream and Shout” it was a sensible avenue to pursue but that’s starting to look like a bit of a fluke now, sadly. Continue reading

Single: Britney Spears – “Perfume” (2013)

Fresh from inspiring us to go that extra mile to get what we want in “Work Bitch“, it seems like Britney’s got some work to do herself, defending her man from one of his exes. She’s also got to work to launch this latest album well, “Britney Jean” is out next month, and its first single performed well, but it’s a crowded Christmas market this year.

“Perfume” is a rare ballad from Britney, who ditched the sentimentality for club-ready dance-pop some years ago. Her last proper ballad is probably “Everytime”, and that’s nearly ten years old now – terrifying.

While I wasn’t convinced at “Everytime” having hit single potential until it became one, I’m having similar trouble with “Perfume”, so I’m hoping to be proven wrong again. It’s a lovely little song though. Continue reading
