New Year has hit my town, and as I’m about to reach the 7 month anniversary of my town, I wonder how much there really is left to accomplish. I had a similar moment of doubt at the end of summer during my quest to get a scorpion, but really I am ticking off a lot of boxes now. But let’s get back to that. Continue reading

As the nights draw in for the Winter, Animal Crossing is still a hotbed of seasonal activity. Aside from the monthly fishing tourney, snow has covered the village enabling you to create living snowmen who give you all manner of seasonal swag before they melt. But the villagers only have one thing on their mind, the even-more-materialistic-than-Christmas festival of “Toy Day”. Continue reading
As 2013 rolls steadily towards its conclusion, there are a few events to keep us busy now that summer’s bugs have moved on. After last month’s Halloween event, November sees the arrival of Franklin the Turkey, just in time for Thanksgi… um… the Harvest Festival! Of course!
There’s not quite the breadth of collectables involved in the Harvest Festival, aside from the Harvest series of furniture available in Nook’s all month. I can’t say I was a huge fan of it – it was a bit more subtle than the pumpkin themed Spooky series, but there’s just so much lilac! Still, collecting it all, as well as the many pieces of Mush series available during the month by picking special randomly appearing mushrooms in your town managed to push me up to the 100K mark with the HRA, and I got a flash new gold trophy for my troubles. Just need to get that last 50k now to unlock the HRA challenges! Continue reading
On the way to catching up to ‘real time’, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get the most out of the Halloween event that unsurprisingly took place on the evening of 31 October.
During October, the accessory shop started stocking six different scary masks. It was a bit of a pain to collect the set, you only get one a day, and that bug mask never seemed to come up. But the benefits of your diligence were made apparent when Jack, the Pumpkin King arrived in town, having heralded his arrival by mail a few times during the month. Continue reading
A few weeks ago I finally broke the deadlock and got back into Animal Crossing. But I had a LOT of catching up to do. For those of you not following my exploits, I had been determined to get a scorpion and the September-only salmon. However, a busy period for me meant fruitless hours trying to catch the scorpion on September evenings crawling with crickets. Not worth it.
Similarly fruitless were my searches for salmon, which I gathered had migrated up the river in the second half of the month. But then suddenly it was October and I hadn’t played for weeks. So I time-travelled. I feel bad about it, but I think I could well have given up entirely if I hadn’t caught those things. Continue reading
