Let’s keep powering through, YEAH!!! Let’s hear some enthusiasm! Or not, whatever. So here’s the halfway mark, and to spice things up, I’m writing this quite drunk as I’ve just got back from my family Christmas party, and realised I hadn’t written it yet. Fun!

I had hoped things would turn out a bit better than they have done for Britney’s eighth album “Britney Jean” – the name has a slight ring of “Damita Jo” about it… perhaps the less said about that the better. It seems that the campaign is not getting off to a great start, and it’s looking to be getting lost in the Christmas rush without even particularly positive reviews to help it out.
A shame really because there’s nothing particularly wrong with it, I quite enjoyed it really, and at a very slim 36 minutes it doesn’t have a chance to get boring. However for an apparently more personal album, the sound is a bit scattergun and I struggle to find too many personal moments outside the will.i.am-sponsored club tracks. In the light of the huge success of “Scream and Shout” it was a sensible avenue to pursue but that’s starting to look like a bit of a fluke now, sadly. Continue reading
2013 is the year of pop-princess albums, or at least the fourth quarter of 2013 is. Who have we got? Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears… even Cher and Celine Dion have been lured out of semi-retirement with new albums. I’d better keep up with the action before I end up with a backlog. Miley may have generated plenty of press for her “Bangerz” album, but Katy Perry must surely have the most to prove with her latest album.
After all, “Teenage Dream” came loaded with five US No.1 hits before its deluxe edition was released, making it one of the most potent chart forces in the States for the best part of 2 years, whilst establishing her as one of the biggest stars on the world stage. Talk about pressure. Let’s just hope it’s good! Continue reading
It took a while, but I ended up quite liking “Roar“, even if I certainly didn’t end up thinking it was the best comeback single of the year. I always felt like Katy Perry was at her best when she had a bit more spark in her music. But despite all the big talk, I thought “Roar” was a bit too heavy on the intent and didn’t really ring true. Still, it’s only pop music, it was fun.
But “Prism” is out now, and it’s sounding fairly good so far. I’ll try to get an album review sorted out sooner rather than later (EDIT – here it is! review). But for now we’ve got a second single. Ignore those ‘promotional’ singles that seem to be thrown out willy-nilly, it’s evidently got the reaction the label were after, and they’ve raised it to full-blown single status. Continue reading
