Eurovision 2014: Semi-Final 2 RESULTS

Wow, what a show! From what appeared on first glance to simply contain the “other” countries, while the big names occupied the first semi, I think it may have been the superior show. A great mix of styles and energy. But we did this for a reason – there were 10 slots left for Saturday’s grand final, but 15 countries were still in the mix. Who would qualify?

Eurovision 2014: Semi-Final 2 preview

Well, after a night of thrills and spills in the first semi-final, 10 new qualifiers joined Denmark and the Big Five in Saturday’s final. There are 10 spots left, but 15 nations are keen to snatch one of those tickets. Who is going to make it?

I’ve been saying for ages that semi-final 2 is perhaps a little easier for some surprise qualifiers, but after Tuesday’s curveballs of both San Marino and Montenegro qualifying for the first time ever, who knows what’s going to happen? Maybe a semi-final lacking so many obvious qualifiers is going to stir things up quite a bit!

Road to Copenhagen 2014: The Shin & Mariko – “Three Minutes to Earth” (Georgia)

Opting for an internal selection again this year come Georgia; the Caucasus nation waiting to get its big breakthrough. They’ve done pretty well though, qualifying 5 of the 6 times they’ve been put through the semi-finals. But then again they’ve sent some pretty amazing songs: 2007’s “Visionary Dream”, 2010’s “Shine”, and 2013’s “Waterfall”.

GeorgiaI suspect this won’t go down as a vintage Georgian entry though. Is there a melody in there somewhere? Give me a clue please… after the first minute we’ve barely started. Mariko has quite a nice voice and is actually singing a song, but that melody is just all over the place.

It’s a cute song, very light-spirited and there’s just something sort of nice about it. But I have no idea what it’s about, it’s just three minutes of folky enigma. Just pick a key, already! Utterly bizarre.

The Men of Malmö 2013 – Part 2

Oh now how can you say I don’t give you what you want? After all the effort I spend writing posts on this blog, all most of you want to do is look at mucky pictures of singers. And why not? I don’t hold it against you, I might go and do that right now. But first, in honour of the first Men of Malmö post, here’s a second portion. I fear I used most of the best ones on the first post, so look at that too! I’ve got loads of the Baku guys too, if you’re good…

There’s also a 2014 remix – The Men of Copenhagen!
