Single: Robin Stjernberg – “Pieces” (2013)

I can’t seem to keep away from Eurovision, can I? Last week I took a look at what this year’s entrants were doing now, but Sweden’s Robin Stjernberg decided I should wait a little longer. But today he’s back with a new single, the title track from his album “Pieces” that was released earlier this just. I suppose it’s not quite a new single then is it… but it’s new to me, so whatever.

robin stjernberg piecesFor those of you even further behind than me, Robin was chosen to be the Eurovision entry for host nation Sweden when the contest came to Malmö back in May. It was an amazing show, and I was so pleased when Robin qualified for it via Sweden’s massively popular Melodifestivalen selection programme. His entry “You” was exhilarating and made great use of Robin’s incredible vocal range (and big smile). Continue reading

The Men of Malmö 2013 – Part 2

Oh now how can you say I don’t give you what you want? After all the effort I spend writing posts on this blog, all most of you want to do is look at mucky pictures of singers. And why not? I don’t hold it against you, I might go and do that right now. But first, in honour of the first Men of Malmö post, here’s a second portion. I fear I used most of the best ones on the first post, so look at that too! I’ve got loads of the Baku guys too, if you’re good…

There’s also a 2014 remix – The Men of Copenhagen!

Eurovision 2013: Life after Malmö

You know, some singer might even entertain the idea of success after Eurovision. I mean look at ABBA and Celine Dion, the list goes on (but perhaps not for too long). While Eurovision gathered 39 acts together in Malmö in fierce competition, life still goes on. Many never planned a big album campaign after, some go into retirement, others return to their regional markets and some reap the benefits of the exposure in otherwise inaccessible parts of Europe.

So now we are about 4 months down the road, and the class of 2013 have popped out a handful of new songs. Let’s see if they are up to scratch.

Album: Margaret Berger – “Pretty Scary Silver Fairy” (2006)

People have careers outside Eurovision, as you can imagine. While some of its performers have had long careers, and others even kick off long careers as a result of it, there is a huge spectrum inbetween. Margaret rose to fame on Norway’s “Idol” show, where she reached 2nd place in the 2004 series. It spawned an album “Chameleon”, and two years later, this album “Pretty Scary Silver Fairy”.

I was very excited to see her name appear in the running for Norwegian Eurovision re-selection event “Norsk Melodi Grand Prix”, as I had long loved her single “Samantha”, so I think now the dust has settled in Malmö, it’s time to take a look at its parent album. Eurovision 2013: Deleted Scenes

I’ve written plenty about Eurovision this year (check my Malmö 2013 hub for the whole sorry extent of it). So I think maybe that’s enough. Pictures are supposed to say 1,000 words, so here are tens of thousands of words to keep you busy. I’ll do a non-Eurovision write-up about Malmö the city later on. I must think of a way to share my photos better, any ideas?

Click on the thumbnails to see the full pictures. WordPress thoughtfully jumbled up the order once I uploaded them, so have fun working out where they were from. They are from variously:

  • Semi-Final 1
  • Semi-Final 2 Jury Rehearsal (i.e. the good ones where I was right at the front perving on Farid
  • Semi-Final 2
  • Grand Final Jury Rehearsal (look out for Russia winning)
  • A gig at the Euro Cafe featuring Eddie Razaz, Stockholm Syndrome & Pay-TV (gig review)
  • Eurovision events & decorations around Malmö Continue reading
