Right, only a quick one today because I’ll be catching a taxi to the coach station shortly. I’m off on holiday. It seems like it’s not been that long since Malmö – I guess it hasn’t, that was only 6 weeks ago.
But despite it seeming like a terrible time to take annual leave from work, the next few months are only going to get worse, and this is the only chance I have to go anywhere before the end of September. I guess that won’t feel like such a depressing prospect when I get back in July.
Yes anyway, I’m going to Amsterdam. I haven’t been before – or if I have, it was only on a technicality at a hotel-conference centre for my previous job. My dad took me to Rotterdam when I was about 14, but that with his work – not exactly the glamorous holiday, but I was excited at the time. Amsterdam’s supposed to be really nice though. Only a week away from their first ever London gig, and I’ve finally caught up with J-Pop girl trio Perfume’s studio albums. I’m going in a weird order though, starting with 2009’s amazing “Triangle“, then 2011’s solid “JPN“. They’ve had a bit of a messy career to follow over a few labels, but this is their first proper studio album.
There are a bunch of singles before now that were compiled in the “Complete Best” album, but I’ll get to them another time – perhaps before the gig if I get to listen to them enough.
So how was “Game”? Still pretty listenable, but I feel like it didn’t quite have that magic ingredient they got for “Triangle”. Some of it is a bit samey and doesn’t really grab me. Then again, there are a few hot little numbers in there. Shall we DELVE? Yes, let’s…
What a busy little while it’s been in my town. Day 10 passed, and with it a number of features were quietly unlocked.
Firstly Nookling Junction got its first upgrade – possible after day 10 as mayor, your first mortgage load payment (the tent) and 10,000 bells spent in the shop. It closed for a day and opened much bigger: 3 tools, medicine, 2 fortune cookies, 3 furniture items, wallpaper, flooring and a catalogue to order from. We are spoilt! Still waiting for that damned slingshot though. Continue reading
Check me, I’ve got my finger on the pulse, I’m only 3 weeks late looking at Danny Saucedo’s latest single. Danny’s had a good year, taking a break from coming second at Melodifestivalen, he co-hosted the show this year.
He was a great host and took some opportunities to sing too, including with a one-night-only reunion of Alcazar, really awesome. That builder’s outfit was pretty hot too…
I’m not completely familiar with Danny’s musical output outside Melodifestivalen, though I really loved his latest “Amazing” album, an awesome cardio playlist! It’s not clear what form his next album will take, judging by this latest single. Continue reading
Good God this week has been exhausting. It’s not over yet (well duh, it’s Wednesday), but I’ve got rid of two particularly stressy tasks today.
Firstly (well, secondly, I only just did it), I’ve submitted yet another application to my target employer in the hope that I might even get an interview this time. I’ve applied for a few jobs there and only ever got the rather stark “Sorry but thanks for playing” letter back to ruin my weekend. This is the one though, it’s going to happen. Hmm. Whatever, I’ve applied now.
Secondly (well, firstly) I had my big Japanese exam. Not one you’d have heard of, I’m still doing my evening class that I started in 2008. I had the terrifying speaking exam, involving presenting a 1 minute speech about a photo I provided, and another 1 minute speech about a book I’d read, and some opinions about my exam partner’s book that she’d just told me about.
Fortunately I managed to pass them both. The first speech I even got 10/10 for, whoop!! That’s progress at least! The only slightly sad note is that it now seems likely that our big group is going to split up after this term. It’s been a bit strained recently as part of the group started to feel the burn a bit too much as we pressed on with new grammar. Continue reading
